Kataja

Teemu Rannikko was named Finals MVP in both of Kataja's Korisliiga championship runs, in 2015 and 2017 — the only two league titles the Joensuu club has won since its basketball section broke away from the parent sports club, founded in 1900, in 1949.

The Suomen Cup has been kinder: Kataja lifted it in 2002, 2011 and 2012, then again in 2023.

Locally the team is known as Metsä, the Forest, or Metsäpojat, the Forest Boys — a nickname that sits comfortably with the yellow and green shirts. Since 2022 they have played at the Motonet Arena, a 2,500-seat venue that replaced the Joensuu Areena, itself only opened in 2004.

Kataja's Finnish rivalries run mainly through Helsinki Seagulls and Salon Vilpas.
