Kovalivka is a village in Kyiv Oblast, and until 2012 its football consisted of a side called Svitanok. That team was wound up when a new club took its place.

The rise came in stages that were easy to miss from outside. Three straight Kyiv Oblast championships between 2012 and 2014, a regional cup in the same run, then the Second League title in 2015–16. A runners-up finish in the First League in 2018–19 carried the club into the Premier League — the first promotion of that kind in its short history, and the point at which a village team began hosting the country's established names.

The stadium seats 5 000, which puts the ground somewhere below the size of the population that fills it on a good afternoon elsewhere in the league.

2020–21 remains the high point. Kolos finished fourth, the club's best placing in the top division, and reached the quarter-finals of the Ukrainian Cup in the same season. European qualification followed in 2020–21 and again the season after — the first Ukrainian club based in a village to reach continental competition.

The nickname stuck from the beginning: Khliboroby , the grain growers.
