Koper

Josip Iličič came back to Koper in 2025, and by then he had scored four goals in a single Champions League match for Atalanta and played 86 times for Slovenia.

Koper started out in 1920 as Circolo sportivo Capodistriano, playing in black and white. The yellow and blue came later, out of a merger with Aurora and Meduza — and the nickname Rumeno-modri stuck.

The league title took ninety years to arrive. It came in 2009–10, with Miran Pavlin as captain — a midfielder who had been at Porto and Freiburg and played at Euro 2000 and the 2002 World Cup before coming home. He later took over as the club's sporting director.

Four second-place finishes in the league sit alongside, the most recent in 2025–26.

Bonifika holds 4,047, which puts the whole ground within earshot of itself. It matters most when Izola come over. Eight kilometres separate the two towns, the fixture is called the Obalni derbi, and the argument goes back to the 1930s and the Yugoslav leagues. Tifozi on one side, Ribari on the other; the relationship has not softened.

Mladen Rudonja played for Koper across four separate spells between 1990 and 2012, with Portsmouth and Standard in between. In a qualifier against Romania he scored the goal that sent Slovenia to the 2002 World Cup — the country's first.
