KVZ

The name comes from a brigade, not a neighbourhood: Kikosi cha Valantia Zanzibar, the volunteer force the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar set up in 2004 to help with national security. The football side started the same year, and for its first decade it was an amateur outfit playing for the Mtoni district on the edge of Zanzibar City.

Promotion came through the Unguja Provincial League in 2014/15, and the club has stayed in the Zanzibar Premier League ever since. The first season up ended in second place behind Zimamoto FC, and second place became something of a habit — 2018/19 finished the same way, this time behind KMKM SC.

Continental football has been shorter. In 2017 the club won the first leg of a CAF Confederation Cup preliminary tie against Le Messager FC of Burundi, 2-1, then lost the return 0-3. The 2020/21 attempt ended 0-4 on aggregate to Al Amal Atbara of Sudan.

The loan that most changed a season was Selemani Mwalimu's. The Tanzanian striker arrived for 2023-24 and scored 20 league goals in 27 appearances, adding seven assists, before moving on to Wydad AC and then Simba SC.

Home is Amaan Stadium, 15,000 capacity, though smaller fixtures go back to the Mao Tse Tung Stadium in Mtoni, which holds around 1,500 — a ground a short walk from where the club began. Matches against Mlandege FC carry the most weight locally.
