The men who put their names to the club's founding were schoolboys and commerce students, and they did it in a teacher's front room. That was 11 November 1911, and the name they chose first, Lusitano Académico, told you who they were before it told you anything about football.
The name moved twice more — to Lusitano Futebol, then in 1925 to Lusitano Ginásio Clube, which remains the official title today.
By then the club had already won the first championship its city ever held, in 1917/18, and it spent the next two decades taking Évora's title more or less as it pleased: 12 of them by 1941, under three different bodies as the local game reorganised itself around it.
The national breakthrough came in 1951/52, when Lusitano won the Segunda Divisão. Then 2024/25 brought the Campeonato de Portugal title and, with it, promotion to Liga 3, where the club plays now alongside its runs in the Taça de Portugal.
Home is Campo Estrela, which holds 4,000. The green and white have been constant throughout.
The 2021/22 season brought a treble in the Évora association, the old district competitions that made the club's early reputation, won again more than a century after that first city championship — and 110 years after a group of students sat down in a borrowed room and decided they wanted a team.
