In the spring of 2018 a club reached the semi-finals of the Taça de Portugal.

The club comes from Caldas da Rainha and was founded on 15 May 1916. Then, in 1954/55, Caldas finished second in the II Divisão — the closest the club has come to the top flight, and it has not been that close since.

What followed instead was a run of district football in the 1960s: champions of Leiria in 1962/63, 1963/64, 1965/66 and 1968/69, with the district cup added in that last season. Promotion out of the third tier came three times, in 1971/72, 2006/07 and 2010/11, each title separated from the last by more than thirty years and then by four.

Home is the Campo da Mata, capacity 5,700 — a figure worth holding on to, because the cup run of 2017/18 drew far more attention to the ground than its stands were built for. The colours are white and black, which gives the club its Portuguese description, alvinegro, though in Caldas da Rainha the team is known as the Pelicanos.

Football is only part of the building. Volleyball and other sections share the crest, and the trophy count across all of them runs past 500. Since 2021 the club has collected recognition of a different kind — gold in the Puro Futebol awards in 2021/22 and 2022/23, bronze in 2023/24, and a social-responsibility award in that same season.

The first division remains untouched. In 110 years Caldas has won promotions, district titles and a cup semi-final, but never a season in Portugal's top flight.
