Metz Women

The women's section was formed in 1968 inside ASPTT Metz, and the club spent the following decades changing its name as it professionalised — Handball Metz Métropole from 2002, Handball Metz Moselle Lorraine from 2005, and finally Metz Handball since 2009.

Les Dragonnes, as they're known locally, have won the French championship 27 times, the French Cup 14 times and the League Cup 8 times, making them the most successful women's handball club the country has produced. Emmanuel Mayonnade has held the post since 2022.

Domestically, Metz's fiercest matches are against Brest Bretagne, a fixture regular enough to have earned its own name, "Le Classique," and sharp enough that locals also call it the fratricidal duel. Les Arènes, the 5,458-capacity hall the club calls home, tends to fill for it. Europe took longer to fall into place: a runners-up finish in the EHF Cup in 2013 and a bronze medal in the Champions League in 2022 preceded the club's breakthrough in 2026, when Metz won the EHF Champions League outright for the first time.
