Minija

That continuity broke in 2016, when the original FK Minija folded under debt. A new club rose the following year on the same ground, and it has since worked its way back up through the Lithuanian league system, now playing in the 1 Lyga.

The football itself is played at Kretingos miesto stadionas, a ground that holds 900 people. That team belonged to the 1960s. In 1964 Minija took the Lithuanian Cup and finished third in the A klasė, the country's top flight at the time, and the same group of players had already reached the cup final twice before, in 1958 and 1970. A Soviet Cup run in 1971 took them all the way to the final of the "Golden Spur," where they lost to a Ukrainian side.

A runners-up finish in the second-tier I Lyga in 1991 marked one high point; a Western Zone title in the II Lyga in 2018, sealed with a 5-0 win over FK Babrungas Plungė in a golden match, marked the return from the 2016 collapse. In 2025 the club's ownership passed to Moussa Dembélé, the French forward.

None of it outweighs Ramutis Trumpenskas in the club's own memory. He captained the 1964 side and top-scored in that Lithuanian championship with 25 goals, the numbers behind both the bronze medal and the cup win, and together with strike partner Eduardas Milius he put together more than 110 league goals across their years in blue and white.
