Ipoh grew on tin money, and long after the mines went quiet the town kept its football team as the thing that filled Perak Stadium.

Indra Putra Mahayuddin did more than most to build that reputation, finishing his career as the Malaysia Super League's all-time leading scorer while playing in Perak's colours.

That standing nearly disappeared in 2025. Perak F.C., the privatised company that had run the licence under XOX Berhad, collapsed under debts it could not settle and lost its National Licensing standing. The Perak Football Association took the team back under its own control, entering the state side, Perak FA, into the Malaysia A1 Semi-Pro League for 2025–26 under Syamsul Saad, with Noor Zaidi bin Rohmat later taking over the dugout.

The rebuilt side has already found a way to matter again: in January 2026 it beat Super League club Kuala Lumpur City 2–0 in the first leg of the Malaysia Cup round of 16. Perak FA now sits in the second tier, working its way back toward the level Seladang once ruled.
