Seen Tigers

The Sporthalle Neuhegi sits in Winterthur's Neuhegi district, where the Seen Tigers built enough of a reputation that opponents came to know the ground as the "Tigerfalle" — the Tiger Trap. It seats around 700 for the arena's bigger events, and it is where the club has done most of its growing since 2007, when the handball department of TV Seen, a gymnastics club dating back to 1883, broke away and joined forces with the dedicated HCL Letten Tigers to form a club in its own right.

The senior men's side no longer stands alone: it competes as SG Seen Tigers/Pfadi, a formal partnership with Pfadi Winterthur, the city's elite club. That arrangement rules out any local rivalry between the two — they share facilities and a youth pipeline instead of fighting for bragging rights — and it has given several academy products, among them Tiago Cuencas, Tazio Baumann and Mischa Romer, a route up into Pfadi's own ranks and into Swiss youth international squads.

On the pitch, the club sits in the 1. Liga, the third tier, having dropped out of the Nationalliga B in 2024 and finished sixth in the division last season. In the Swiss Cup this season they got as far as the round of 16 before Chênois Genève ended the run. Without a Pfadi-style rivalry on their doorstep, the sharper edge comes from matches against Pfader Neuhausen and SG Uster/Stäfa, with the occasional game against SC Frauenfeld picking up "derby" billing more out of habit than history.

None of that has yet produced a Swiss Cup or national title, but it has kept the Tiger Trap busy on match nights in a corner of Winterthur that handball has claimed as its own.
