Start Elbląg Women

In 2017 Start Elbląg did something it had not managed in the previous quarter-century: it reached a Polish Cup final. The run ended in a 26:29 defeat to Zagłębie Lubin, and the club is still waiting on its first cup.

The bulk of the honours board dates from the 1990s. Start took the Superliga title twice, in 1991/1992 and 1993/1994, with two further runner-up finishes either side of those wins. Iwona Błaszkowska was part of the 1994 championship side and went on to win 136 caps for Poland across two spells at the club, 1993 to 2000 and 2004 to 2007.

Under Andrzej Niewrzawa, the club reached the semi-finals of the Women's EHF Challenge Cup in 2015/2016.

Locally the fixture that matters is against Energa AZS Koszalin, billed as the Pomerania derby. Supporters call the players Starterki, and under Magdalena Stanulewicz, a former player who took over as head coach in 2024, the current side plays in the blue, white and red the club has carried since it was founded in Elbląg in 1953.
