Tapiolan Honka

Those titles go back to the 1960s, when Espoon Honka, as the basketball section was then known, won five straight Finnish championships between 1968 and 1972 and added Finnish Cups in 1968 and 1971. The basketball side had split off from a wider multi-sport club called Tapion Honka, founded in Espoo in 1957, and it took until 1975 to settle on the Espoon Honka name it carried through its best years.

Promotion from the I Divisioona A returned the men's team to the top-tier Korisliiga in 2024. Home games are played in front of 1,570 seats at Tapiolan Urheiluhalli, and there is no old rival waiting for the men's team the way there is in the women's game, where Honka's derby with Espoo Basket Team carries the weight of a shared past — the two ran a joint women's side, Espoo Team, from 2004 to 2012, winning both the league and the cup in 2009.

Of the players who wore the shirt, Petteri Koponen is the one Honka people bring up first.
