Ulinzi Stars

The closest Ulinzi Stars have come to silverware since their last top-flight title is a runners-up finish in the 2016 Kenya Shield Cup, lost 1-0 to Tusker FC. The club still carries the identity that built those earlier years: a side fielded by the Kenya Defence Forces, formed in 1995 by merging six military teams — Waterworks, Scarlet, Kahawa United, Silver Strikers, Kenya Navy and Spitfire — into one representative XI, known to this day as KDF Ulinzi.

They played out of Thika until the 2004/05 season, when the base shifted to Nakuru and Afraha Stadium, also referred to locally as the KDF Ulinzi Stadium, which holds around 8,200. Red, black and white have stayed the club's colours throughout.

The four league championships came inside eight years: 2003, settled in a play-off against Coast Stars after Nzoia Sugar's title was revoked; 2004, decided in an official league play-off; then 2005 and 2010 outright. The 2011 KFPL Top 8 Cup, won 2-1 against Western Stima, is the only major honour since. Against Kenya Police FC, another club raised from a security service, Ulinzi contest the Afande Derby.

McDonald Mariga wore the shirt as a teenager before Tusker signed him in 2003, on a path that eventually took him to Inter Milan and Porto. Dennis Oliech also came through the club before establishing himself as one of Kenya's leading strikers and a fixture of the national side at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Four titles, all won between 2003 and 2010.
