Wieczysta Kraków

The club traces itself to 1942, when, under German occupation, local organisers led by Edward Ignaszewski set it up as cover for sport the occupying authorities had banned.

Wieczysta won all 28 matches of its regional league campaign that season, took the fourth tier and then the third tier in successive promotions, and reached the last 16 of the Polish Cup along the way. Third-placed league finishes turned into play-off wins two years running, carrying the club from the second tier to the first and then, this year, into the Ekstraklasa for the first time in its history.

Sławomir Peszko, a Poland international who played at the 2018 World Cup, was among those who arrived once the money did, and he later became the club's vice-president for sporting affairs. The promotion also brought Wieczysta its first competitive meetings with Cracovia and Wisła, a rivalry the other two had shared for a century without it.

Its own ground, the Stadion Wieczystej, holds 1,485 people and falls well short of what the Ekstraklasa requires, so home matches are being played at the Henryk Reyman Stadium while a new one is built — the club still working, as it did in 1942, with less space than the occasion calls for.
