Centre 200: Stadium in Sydney

The actual centre opened in early 1987, timed to the bicentennial of the settlement. It was always called Centre 200, even though the original plan called it Centre 2000. The funding fell through and the name changed, but the ice underneath stayed the same.

Cape Breton Eagles moved in during 1997, and the team has played there ever since. The arena is owned by the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. In 2009, the club added 13 luxury boxes and new seating behind the glass.

A new video scoreboard landed in 2024, paid for by the Nova Scotia government and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). The curling crowd came for the 2024 BKT Tires World Women's Championship and the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. The NHL brought a preseason game in 2023 when the Florida Panthers met the Ottawa Senators, and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) has kept its hand in the venue's pocket since the first renovation.
