Charlottetown Islanders edged Cape Breton Eagles 3:4 in a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League match on 20 September 2026. Both sides remain winless in the standings, though the visitors have played three more games than their hosts. The result leaves the home side in seventh place and the away team in ninth, still at zero points after two and five matches respectively.
We had backed the hosts at 59 per cent confidence, but the match turned against us. The visitors paid for a sloppy opening and ended a barren spell with a late goal that gave them the lead. The home side had their chances but couldn't get over the line when it mattered.
Cape Breton came into this fixture off a 4:5 defeat to Halifax Mooseheads on 18 September, having beaten Moncton Wildcats 4:1 earlier in the month. Charlottetown had also lost on 18 September, going down 3:4 to Moncton in their most recent outing. Both teams are finding the going tough in these early games.
By then, the visitors had already faced the hosts earlier in the campaign, losing 2:3 on 6 September. That previous meeting suggested this would be a tight affair, and the final scoreline reflected the balance of the contest. The Eagles had won both of their other matches against Moncton, but this time the visitors held firm.
The standings offer little to distinguish the two sides at this stage. Seven games between them have produced eight points total, and the gap remains wide across the league. The Islanders have played more fixtures, which gives them slightly more data to work with as the season develops.
