Sherbrooke put a junior team on the ice in 1969, and only in 1995 did the franchise settle in Rimouski and take the name Océanic. Vincent Lecavalier went first overall in 1998, Sidney Crosby went first overall in 2005, and Alexis Lafrenière went first overall in 2020.
That defeat sat alongside an earlier, sweeter memory — the 2000 Memorial Cup, won without Crosby, when Rimouski beat the Barrie Colts 6–2.
They lost it in 2009 to the Halifax Mooseheads, in 2015 to the Kelowna Rockets, and most recently in 2025 to the Moncton Wildcats, having finished last in that year's round robin before the loss.
