Estadio Cuauhtémoc

The stadium's name has never changed, but not for lack of trying. It opened as Estadio Cuauhtémoc, honouring the last Aztec ruler and the brewery that helped pay for its construction, and it has kept that name through a proposal to attach Audi's brand to it in 2015 and a push in 2025 to rename it for the coach Manuel Lapuente.

The ground opened on 6 October 1968, days ahead of the Mexico City Olympics, and Mexico drew Czechoslovakia 1-1 in the first match played there.

What has occupied the club and the state government more recently is the pitch. A hybrid turf went in during autumn 2025, a 5-million-peso job meant to bring the surface up to FIFA standard ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Instead, the new turf began lifting in patches, and a Toluca player was injured on it; by February 2026 the pitch was rated at around 90 percent ready.

The stadium's biggest confirmed crowd on record is the 45,000 who watched Spain play Belgium there at the 1986 World Cup, though concerts are said to have drawn more.
