Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos

It opened as Estádio Olímpico João Havelange in mid-2007, went by the shorthand Engenhão long before officials caught up, and in February 2017 the city's mayor signed a decree renaming it for Nilton Santos, the Botafogo full-back who won two World Cups with Brazil. Locals still call it Niltão as often as they use the formal name.

Botafogo and Fluminense opened the ground in a Brazilian championship fixture the year it was built, and Botafogo has treated it as home territory ever since. The pitch itself was reworked in 2022, when the club switched to a hybrid surface — ninety per cent natural grass reinforced with synthetic fibres.

Getting there means navigating two separate entrances depending on purpose: visitors use the gate off Avenida Presidente Castelo Branco, while the administrative access sits on Rua Professor Eurico Rabelo, a split that reflects how the stadium was folded into the wider Maracanã sports complex rather than built as a standalone venue.
