The Engenhão was built for the 2007 Pan American Games and holds 46,831 people.

The team itself exists because the Brazilian football confederation said it had to. In 2019 the CBF made a women's side a condition of playing in the top men's division, and clubs across the country set about assembling squads to meet the deadline. Botafogo's was one of them.

That founding date sits awkwardly against the trophy cabinet. The state championship then came back three seasons running, in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

The Rio state title has been the ceiling. In the national league, the Brasileirão Feminino, Botafogo have won nothing, and the 2024 state campaign ended in the semi-finals against Flamengo.
