Arena Independência belongs to América Futebol Clube outright. The stadium in Belo Horizonte, also known as Estádio Raimundo Sampaio, holds 23,018.

Women's football at América has not run continuously. A side wore the crest briefly in 1983 and then vanished for decades before the current team, known informally as the Spartans, took shape. The colours are green, black and white, worn as a striped shirt with black shorts and white socks.

The Spartans' clearest run came between 2016 and 2018, three Campeonato Mineiro Feminino titles in a row, with forward Dilene finishing as the team's top scorer through that spell. National football arrived later: a first Série A2 campaign in 2017, then promotion to the top flight, Série A1, in 2023. Jorge Victor has managed the side since September 2022.

Games against Cruzeiro Women are billed as Coelho versus Raposa — rabbit against fox — inside the long-running Clássico Mineiro, while fixtures with Atlético Mineiro Women go by Clássico das Multidões. Both belong to the same city.
