Fernando Alonso extends contract with Aston Martin
Alonso says he wasn't in a rush to decide but still has the speed and drive to compete at the top level as he commits to Aston Martin through 2027.
Fernando Alonso has signed a new contract with Aston Martin that extends his stay at the team into 2027.
Alonso joined Aston Martin at the start of the 2023 season. In his first year with the British side he took eight podiums and finished fourth in the drivers' championship. His previous deal ran to the end of 2026.
The Spaniard is 45. He won two world titles, in 2005 and 2006, both with Renault, and has taken 32 Grand Prix wins and more than a hundred podiums over his career. He made his Formula 1 debut in 2001, left the championship after the 2018 season and returned in 2021.
Before agreeing fresh terms, Alonso had repeatedly said he was in no hurry over his future, by all accounts wanting to weigh the decision on his own timetable rather than be rushed into it.
