The Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Championship Series is the premier regional competition for women's national rugby sevens teams in Europe. Organized by Rugby Europe, it was founded in 2003 and sits at the top of the European sevens pyramid, above the Trophy Series and Conferences. The competition serves as a pathway for qualification to global events like the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series and the HSBC SVNS.
The format typically consists of two legs per season, held over summer months. Teams compete in a pool stage followed by knockout brackets (Cup and Challenge Trophy). The overall series champion is determined by cumulative points across all legs, with point difference used as a tie-breaker. There is a promotion and relegation system: the bottom-placed team(s) in the Championship Series are relegated to the Trophy Series, while the winner of the Trophy is promoted.
Historically, Russia was the dominant force, winning seven titles between 2013 and 2021, including five consecutive championships from 2016 to 2019. England is the second most successful team with six titles. Following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Russia was suspended from international competition by World Rugby and Rugby Europe, excluding them from the series from 2022 onwards. Recent champions include France (2023, 2024) and Great Britain (2025). Poland won the 2026 title. The competition is distinct from the global HSBC SVNS and the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series, serving as the primary continental development circuit for European nations.
