By then the match had settled into a rhythm neither side could quite control. The visitors created more clear-cut opportunities, recording four big chances against Birmingham's two. Yet the score remained level and the visitors' higher expected goals total of 2.47 to 1.39 suggested they should have taken something from the game.

Wolves were more efficient in front of goal, hitting 40 per cent of their shots on target, but their lower number of attacks — 65 to Birmingham's 102 — limited their output.
The result means both clubs remain within two points of each other in the table. Birmingham's unbeaten run stretches to five games, while Wolves' single defeat came against West Ham on 1 September. Three points separates them still, and neither side can afford to slip too far behind.
