Elversberg Edge Past Gladbach in Bundesliga Thriller
Borussia Mönchengladbach hosted Elversberg at Borussia-Park on Saturday evening, falling 3-4 in a game that swung between momentum and collapse. The result leaves the hosts rooted at the foot of the table with two defeats already, while Elversberg remain unbeaten in second place after their third straight victory.
Hugo Bolin opened the scoring in the eleventh minute with a well-taken finish, and Elversberg responded through David Mokwa before half-time. Bolin restored Gladbach's lead on the stroke of half-time, but a yellow card for Vincent Wagner caught the eye as the visitors tightened their defensive shape.
Joe Scally put the hosts ahead again in the fifty-sixth minute, only for Maurice Krattenmacher to level shortly after the hour mark. The German side then made a series of changes — Cole Campbell, Wael Mohya and Franck Honorat among those introduced — but Felix Keidel struck in the eightieth minute to hand Elversberg the lead.
Krattenmacher completed his double in the ninety-second minute, capping a remarkable comeback that left Gladbach's defence searching for answers. Yellow cards for Kevin Diks and Amara Condé marked the end of an eventful contest.
Gladbach claimed 51 per cent possession and created more big chances, but their 2.36 expected goals yielded just three from six shots on target. Elversberg matched them on expected goals at 2.31, converting their 10 attempts on target with greater efficiency.
The result sees Elversberg move into third place with six points from two matches, while Gladbach remain bottom with none. The visitors have now won three games in a row, while the hosts have lost both of their opening fixtures.
