Chindia hold on to edge Metaloglobus in red-card-plagued Liga II clash
Chindia secured a 3:1 victory over Metaloglobus in the second round of Liga II's regular season on 9 August. The hosts were reduced to ten men just before the interval when Erico Da Silva was sent off, but they responded with a penalty goal and went on to control the remainder of the match. By then the visitors had also lost a player, and despite missing a penalty themselves they could not find a way back into the contest.
And here's the thing about the first half — the red card came at the very edge of stoppage time, 45 minutes in, and almost immediately Chindia were awarded a spot-kick. G. Honciu converted it at 45+1, giving his side the lead just as the teams were heading to the tunnel. R. Neacsu came on for the hosts at 46, and the momentum shifted before the break.
The second half produced more drama. V. Bogdan doubled the advantage at 57, and moments later Metaloglobus lost their own red card at 59. They had a penalty to salvage the game at 60 but missed it, and Chindia added a third at 90+3 after the visitors had already scored through a goal at 65. To be fair, Metaloglobus kept pushing, but they were second to everything in the final third.
The statistics tell a straightforward story. Chindia registered 99 attacks to 82 for the visitors and took 13 shots on target compared with eight, yet they only needed three to convert. Possession sat at 54 per cent for the hosts, who also won 12 corners against four. The red cards evened things out on the disciplinary side — one apiece — but the missed penalty proved decisive.
Chindia sit ninth with nine points from six games, a record of three wins and three losses. Metaloglobus remain in 13th place with seven points from two wins, one draw and three defeats. The result extends the hosts' unbeaten run to eight across all competitions, while the visitors' recent form — two wins, two draws and a loss in their last five — suggests they are still searching for consistency.
