Popeshti-Lredenji and KSM Râmnicu Vâlcea shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw during the opening matchday of Romania's Liga II. The visitors, who arrived with an unbeaten record from the previous campaign, refused to yield despite KSM's early advantage. Andrei Trascu opened the scoring for the hosts in the 40th minute before Taiwo Olakunle Quadri levelled things up eight minutes from time.
Trascu's goal came after sustained pressure from KSM, who enjoyed slightly more possession at 48 per cent. The academy graduate marked his first start with a goal, but his contribution was short-lived—he was substituted in the 60th minute, suggesting the coaching staff wanted to manage his fitness after the opening fixture.
What followed was a game that became increasingly physical. Five yellow cards landed in the dying stages alone, with the referee producing cards at 90, 90+4, 90+5, 90+6 and 90+8 minutes. The hosts accumulated five yellows overall compared to four for the visitors, and by then the tension had clearly taken its toll on both sides.
The statistics reveal a curious imbalance. KSM registered 102 attacks to Popeshti-Lredenji's 100, but only managed three shots on target against six for their opponents. The visitors were more clinical, converting their opportunities to salvage a point away from home. The hosts gave away too many cheap fouls in the final quarter, which perhaps explains the yellow card avalanche.
The result leaves Popeshti-Lredenji top of the table with 13 points from two matches, while KSM sit 11th with nine points. The visitors' unbeaten run continues—they have not lost in six games now—but they will know a win would have put them clear. For KSM, this draw maintains their recent pattern of hard-fought results.
