Glenavon put three more points on the board on Saturday, seeing off Strabane Athletic 4:1 in the Championship's third round. The result lifts the home side further clear of the lower reaches.
Before kick-off Glenavon sat fifth with ten points from six matches, while Strabane languished fourteenth after five outings and three points. The gap between them was already notable.
Glenavon came into the fixture on the back of a 4:1 win over Newry City on Thursday, following losses to Ards and Crusaders earlier in the month. Strabane's recent run included a 3:1 victory against Moyola Park, but also heavy defeats — most recently a 6:0 thrashing by Ballymena United on 4 July.
And here's the thing: the margin in the table is now wider still. Glenavon move up to thirteen points after six games, while Strabane remain on three after five matches. They have a game in hand, but the points gap has grown.
To be fair, one match does not make a season, and the Championship table is still taking shape. But Glenavon's form since their opening defeat looks steadier, while Strabane's inconsistency continues to cost them ground.
