Kisvárda and Debrecen played out a goalless draw in the NB I Regular Season on Sunday. The match ended 0-0 at the home ground, extending both sides' unbeaten run to five games without a loss in their last six outings.
The first half passed without incident until the break. Then came the turning point, and here's the thing — Debrecen found themselves down to ten men after Gennadiy Szikszai saw red in the seventy-fourth minute. To be fair, Kisvárda had already taken a yellow card earlier through Marko Matanović, but Szikszai's dismissal changed everything.
By then Debrecen had made several changes, bringing on Gergő Tercza and Flórián Cibla in quick succession. Ádám Lang would follow Szikszai to the sin-bin in the eighty-first minute, leaving the visitors with just nine men for the closing stages. Kisvárda made their own adjustments, bringing on Christián Herc and later Ákos Szendrei.
The statistics tell a story of two sides that cancelled each other out. Both teams held fifty per cent possession, and Kisvárda registered eleven shots off target compared to Debrecen's five. The hosts created two big chances but could not convert, while both goalkeepers made only a handful of saves. Kisvárda completed 217 passes in the opposition half, but the final ball remained elusive.
The result leaves both teams level on six points after six games. Kisvárda sit tenth while Debrecen occupy eleventh, and neither side has found the breakthrough they need to climb clear. A draw feels about right for two teams who have been second to everything this season.
