Arda Kardzhali claimed a 1-0 victory over Lokomotiv Plovdiv in the Bulgarian First League's sixth regular season round at the Lokomotiv arena on Sunday evening. The result keeps Lokomotiv rooted in thirteenth place with just three points from seven matches, while Arda move up to fifth with sixteen points.
Julien Lamy's dismissal came early and changed the complexion of the fixture. The Lokomotiv captain received a yellow card in the fourteenth minute followed by a second booking in the seventeenth, leaving his side to play most of the match with ten men. Dominik Yankov of Arda would later score the decisive goal in the sixty-fifth minute, adding a second in the sixty-sixth before being substituted himself in the sixty-ninth.
Lokomotiv dominated possession at 37 per cent compared to Arda's 63, yet struggled to create clear-cut chances. The home side registered six shots off target and two on target against seven off target and five on target for the visitors. Despite generating 65 attacks to Arda's 64, Lokomotiv could only muster three corners while their opponents managed two.
Multiple substitutions were forced by the numerical disadvantage, with Lokomotiv bringing on Christ Longville in the fifty-seventh minute and Preslav Bachev in the sixty-second. The home side made three changes in the eighty-seventh minute alone, bringing on Svetoslav Kovachev, Viktor Popov and Stanislav Ivanov as they searched for an equaliser.
Discipline was an issue throughout, with Lokomotiv collecting three yellow cards and Arda four. Georgi Nikolov, Lachezar Kotev and Miha Trdan all received bookings in the closing stages as tension built. Ivaylo Ivanov was booked twice for the home side in the seventy-first and seventy-eighth minutes.
The result leaves Lokomotiv with a significant gap to close in the table, sitting ten points behind Arda in fifth place. The visitors have won five of their seven matches this season and look increasingly comfortable in mid-table, while Lokomotiv's winless run continues with six defeats from seven outings.
