Longford Town ran riot at home against Finn Harps, closing out a 5-0 victory in the First Division's Regular Season round 26 on Monday. The hosts made the most of a turning point when Finn Harps were reduced to ten men just after the break. By then the visitors had already lost their composure on the pitch.
D. Williams opened the scoring in the 32nd minute before D. McKenna added a second just before the interval. The game shifted on the hour when B. Bosakani received a red card in stoppage time. And here's the thing — Finn Harps never recovered from that blow.
D. McKenna restored his side's lead in the 49th minute and D. Murtagh extended it two minutes later. Longford kept probing while the visitors were left flat-footed down to ten men. The visitors' goalkeeper did not face a single shot on target throughout the afternoon.
A. O'Brien made it four in the 84th minute and J. Bailey rounded off the scoring in the 90th minute. Longford saw off two yellow cards and a red card of their own but Finn Harps had already been undone. S. Bradley collected two bookings before being sent off in the 86th minute.
The statistics tell the story clearly enough. Longford registered nine shots on target from 77 attacks with 56 per cent possession. Finn Harps managed zero shots on target from the same number of attacks.
The result leaves Longford in sixth place with 41 points from 30 games. Finn Harps sit 10th on 22 points and have lost 18 of their 30 matches this season.
