Millonarios and Deportivo Cali played out a 1-1 draw at Estadio Nemecio Camacho El Campin in the fifth round of the Clausura. The result leaves both sides within a point of each other in the table, with Deportivo Cali sitting ninth on 27 points and Millonarios tenth on 19.
Johan Martinez gave the hosts the lead in the 39th minute, but Francisco Chaverra restored parity five minutes into the second half. Between them came a flurry of changes at the break, with Sebastián Valencia, Mateo Garcia Rojas and Daniel Felipe Ruiz Rivera all coming on for Millonarios. Deportivo responded with Eduard Bello in the 55th minute before another round of three substitutions at the hour mark.
And here's the thing about this match — it was decided in those moments rather than sustained pressure. Millonarios created three big chances against two for their visitors, while the expected goals figures tell a story of more chances wasted than gained. The hosts registered seven shots on target with an xG of 1.74, yet only converted once.
By then the match had settled into a pattern of caution. Both sides picked up five yellow cards, with the latter stages producing a cluster of bookings from 77 minutes onwards. Leyser Chaverra Renteria, Leonardo Castro and David Silva all went to the referee for Millonarios, while Avilés Hurtado, Rodrigo Ureña and Jose Carlos Caldera did the same for Deportivo.
To be fair, the statistics suggest Millonarios should have taken more from this. They completed 313 passes compared to 290 for the visitors, and their 90 attacks to 84 shows they pushed forward more consistently. Yet the difference in shots accuracy — 41 per cent versus 45 — meant neither side could break through completely.
The draw keeps the gap between them tight at just eight points, though the table positions tell a different story. Deportivo Cali's superior form has them nearer the top half, while Millonarios have yet to find their rhythm after five rounds. This result changed nothing in the standings, but it brought both sides together at the same level again.
