Mount Pleasant Academy fall to Cibao in Caribbean clash
Mount Pleasant Academy lost 1-2 to Cibao in the second group-stage match of the CONCACAF Club Championship (Caribbean) on 18 August 2026. The visitors took the lead through a D. Ledesma goal in the 43rd minute, and N. Fuller added a second for Cibao in the 70th before M. Nichele pulled one back for the hosts.
By then the match had settled into a pattern where the hosts had the ball but Cibao were sharper on the break. Mount Pleasant Academy finished with 89 attacks and 10 shots off target, but their 26% shot accuracy meant chances went begging. Cibao managed just three shots on target from 82 attacks, yet they converted when it mattered.
There were five substitutions in the second half, with both managers trying to shift momentum. D. Ledesma was booked in the 66th minute before being substituted in the 82nd after scoring, while V. Minotta and C. Thomas also picked up yellow cards for the hosts.
The result ended a run of three consecutive wins for Mount Pleasant Academy, who had beaten DelphinES del Este, Robin Hood and Weymouth in the weeks leading up to this fixture. Cibao, meanwhile, have not won since their 2-1 victory over Salcedo on 24 May, though they held Cavalier to a goalless draw on 6 August.
Both sides remain in the group stage with the match contributing to a competitive table. The hosts will need to find more clinical finishing if they are to progress, while Cibao showed that efficiency can overcome a lack of possession.
