Sibao defeated Atlântico 4:1 in the third matchday of the Liga Mayor Regular Season on Friday evening. The visitors, who sit second in the table, put the result beyond doubt with a flurry of goals after Atlântico had taken an early lead at home.
J. De La Cruz Mangas gave the hosts a surprise lead in the fifth minute, but Sibao responded almost immediately. J. Moscoso converted a penalty in the 16th minute before M. Munoz and M. Tejeda struck in the 33rd and 40th minutes respectively, closing the game out by half-time. D. Ledesma added a fourth in the 76th minute to seal the victory.
The statistics tell a familiar story: Sibao dominated possession at 61 per cent and registered 15 shots on target compared with Atlântico's four. The hosts managed 76 attacks to 97, but shots off target were 5 to 15 in favour of the visitors. Atlântico collected four yellow cards while Sibao received two.
The result extends Sibao's unbeaten run to two wins and a loss from three matches, moving them to six points. Atlântico remain winless in their opening three games, with one draw and two defeats leaving them on a solitary point in seventh place.
Sibao's recent form had been uneven — a 0:1 loss to Delfines del Este on 25th August followed by back-to-back victories — but this performance suggests they are finding their rhythm. Atlântico's inability to convert chances will be a concern as they look to climb away from the bottom of the table.
