MTK Budapest saw off Nyíregyháza 2:1 at home in the fifth round of NB I on Saturday afternoon. The result keeps the hosts fourth, two points clear of their visitors who sit eighth.
G. Jurek opened the scoring inside three minutes, a quick burst that caught the visitors off guard. It was the kind of start that sets the tempo — the hosts found a way through before Nyíregyháza could settle.
By then the visitors had pushed back, and at twenty-three minutes M. Kvasina missed a penalty. The incident went to review, but the verdict stood. A few minutes later Kvasina found a way through on his own, slotting home to level at 1:1.
MTK held on grimly through a patchy second half. Jurek struck again at sixty-nine, the old head settling them down after Nyíregyháza had grown into the game. The visitors threw bodies forward but couldn't find a way through.
There is no value left at that number for shots on target. MTK registered five shots on target against five for the visitors, yet the hosts took their chances. Nyíregyháza created three big chances to MTK's three, but the accuracy gap told — 24 per cent versus 45 per cent on target.
The table goes out of the window in these games, but the points matter. MTK move to nine from six matches, while Nyíregyháza remain on seven after three defeats in their last five outings. The hosts saw the game out without losing their shape.
