Polonia Warsaw beat Unia Skierniewice 3:1 in the second round of the I Liga regular season on Saturday. The home side took control after Kamil Sabillo opened the scoring in the 36th minute, and despite Unia losing Bartosz Bida to a red card in the 40th, they held on until Dariusz Gnaase converted a penalty in the 54th. Eryk Terpilowski added a second goal for Polonia in the 89th minute, and a late strike in the 90th minute sealed the victory.
The turning point came when Bida went off early, and by then Polonia had already established a foothold. Sabillo's goal came from sustained pressure, and when Gnaase stepped up for the spot-kick, the home fans could feel the momentum shifting their way. The red card meant Unia had to chase the game from that point, and they kept knocking on the door but couldn't find an equaliser.
Polonia dominated the second half with three substitutions before half-time — Szmyd, Dadok, and Gaska — while Unia brought on Kuusk and Mierzwa to try and change the dynamic. Sabillo was taken off in the 87th minute after his opening goal, and Terpilowski's strike in the 89th minute put the result beyond doubt. The late goal in stoppage time, though without a named scorer, gave the home supporters something to celebrate.
The statistics tell the story of a game that was decided by moments rather than sustained dominance. Polonia had 51 per cent possession and 26 per cent shot accuracy, while Unia managed 49 per cent and 27 per cent. The home side registered six shots on target compared to three for the visitors, and they took nine corners to nine — the numbers showed a match decided by quality over quantity.
Polonia moved to sixth place in the table with 11 points from eight games, three wins, two draws and three losses. Unia remain 18th with just six points from seven matches, two wins and five defeats. The result extended Polonia's recent form — they had beaten Puszcza Niepolomice 1:0 and Zagłębie Bydgoszcz 3:2 in their last two outings — while Unia's struggles continued after a 1:2 defeat to Stal Mielec on their previous outing.
