Suwon Bluewings beat Asan Mugunghwa 2:0 in K-League 2's 25th round on the sixth of September. The hosts kept their place at the top of the table with the result, while Asan slipped further down.
The match turned on the 62nd minute when L. Mina converted a penalty for Suwon. It was the opening goal and, by then, the pattern of the game was fairly clear. Asan had gathered three yellow cards — Choi Hee-Won, S. Jung and Park Seong-Woo — but could not find a way through.
Suwon added a second through Fessin in the 76th. The visitors did not respond with any threat. Park Seong-Woo was substituted himself shortly after the booking, and Asan brought on three players in one go at the 64th minute. Nothing changed.
The numbers tell the story without embellishment. Suwon saw 50 per cent possession and landed seven shots on target, hitting the target 44 per cent of the time. Asan managed one shot on target from one attempt, a 14 per cent accuracy rate. They had eight corners to eight, but the difference was in what happened inside the box.
Before the break Suwon made two changes — Bruno Costa and Kang Seong-Jin came on — while Asan had already lost Lee Jun-Jae to a substitution at the 32nd minute. The hosts worked the channels without much fuss, and Asan's defence, stretched by the penalty incident, never recovered its shape.
Suwon sit first with 50 points from 24 matches, five wins from their last five league games. Asan are seventh on 31 points after 23 outings, eight defeats in that run. The gap between them is now 19 points, and the price has drifted further apart.
