Wolfsburg lost 0:1 to Osnabrück in the third round of the 2. Bundesliga at the Vowinovia Ruristadion on Thursday. Ismail Badjie opened the scoring in the fourth minute, and that proved decisive despite a later goal for the hosts that was ruled out by video review.
Adrian Beck thought he had equalised in the 42nd minute, but the referee cancelled the goal after a VAR check. The visitors had already taken the lead through Badjie, who had only just been playing on the pitch for four minutes. Wolfsburg were pushing for an equaliser when the half ended.
Tom Meyer was substituted in the 60th minute and replaced by Bjarke Jacobsen. Osnabrück made more changes, bringing on Philipp Kammerbauer in the 65th minute and then double-swapping in the 66th. Ismail Badjie came off after scoring, replaced by Leonhard Louis Munst. It was a tactical shift — the visitors were sitting deeper, protecting their lead.
Wolfsburg had 66 per cent of the ball and registered 192 attacks. But their shots accuracy was 0.05 — one shot on target from 11 attempts. They created one big chance but could not finish. Osnabrück managed only 85 attacks with 34 per cent possession, yet their shot accuracy was 0.25. Two shots on target, one goal.
Both sides picked up yellow cards throughout. The hosts had three, the visitors four. Niklas Wiemann and Mats Pannewig were booked late on, as was Luca Raimund in the 90th minute. Wolfsburg remain 11th with three points from three games, while Osnabrück sit 14th on the same tally.
