Yarud Mariupol and Kulikov shared the spoils in the First League's sixth round on Saturday, with the match finishing 1-1 at the home ground. To be fair, the draw suited both sides differently — the hosts remain mid-table while Kulikov keep their push for the upper reaches alive.
O. Synytsya opened the scoring in the eleventh minute, catching Kulikov's defence sleeping. The home side looked comfortable for a spell, but then the game shifted entirely when M. Podolyak collected his second yellow card and a straight red in the thirty-second minute. By then the home advantage was already under pressure.
Culikov had to reshape their approach after the dismissal. Three substitutions came in the fifty-eighth minute — S. Kyslenko, A. Bey and V. Semotyuk — as they tried to find a way through a disciplined home defence. The visitors kept possession but struggled to cut through.
V. Patulyak rescued the point for Yarud in the seventy-second minute, heading home after a period of sustained pressure. The home side had kept their shape well despite being a man down, and the equalizer came when Kulikov's high line was picked apart. The crowd roared them on in those final minutes.
Eight more substitutions arrived in the eighty-eighth minute, mostly from the home side as they tried to see out the game. O. Synytsya, V. Patulyak, R. Malskyi, M. Sharabura, P. Orikhovskyi and R. Gagun all came off — a sign that the result was settled and the manager was managing minutes.
Yarud sit tenth with seven points from six games, while Kulikov occupy fourth with eleven. The away side had won three of their last five but dropped points here, and the hosts extended a run that included two victories in their previous three outings. A point that could have been three for either side, depending on how you look at it.
