Galanta beat Zlate Moravce 1-0 in the Second League regular season round six on Saturday 29 August. J. J. Jokel's 25th-minute strike was enough for the visitors despite Zlate Moravce's dominance in possession and attacks. The result leaves Galanta three points above their hosts in the table.
It was a chance for Galanta to build on their previous two wins. They had beaten Podronye 2-0 and Vyčapy Opatovce 4-1 before that, but their last five games also included three defeats. Zlate Moravce, meanwhile, had gone through mixed results — a 2-0 win followed by two losses and a draw. To be fair, neither side looked particularly settled.
Jokel's goal arrived early enough to set the tone. He was booked himself in the 42nd minute, so the match was already getting physical. Zlate Moravce pushed forward with 57 per cent possession and 120 attacks compared to Galanta's 93, but they couldn't break through. By then, the visitors were sitting deep and watching the clock.
The second half brought more yellow cards and a few changes. S. Micuda came off in the 67th minute for Zlate Moravce, and Galanta brought on O. Lachowicz shortly after. The hosts kept trying, but Galanta had nothing to do all evening until the final minutes. S. Bagin picked up his second yellow in the 80th minute and was then sent off in stoppage time, which added a little drama to an otherwise straightforward afternoon.
Galanta made their substitutions carefully. D. Duga, A. Pudil and Jokel himself all came off in the 84th minute, and N. Bangs was replaced in the 91st. Zlate Moravce threw bodies in the way but couldn't find a way through. The visitors' keeper didn't have much to do, and Galanta's three shots on target were enough.
The numbers tell the story. Zlate Moravce had 13 shots — five on target — and 120 attacks. Galanta managed seven shots with three on target. Possession was 57-43 in favour of the hosts, but the result was decided in a single moment, as it often is.
Galanta move up to 10th place with seven points after six games, while Zlate Moravce stay in 13th with five. The gap between them is now three points. For the hosts, it was another afternoon where they controlled the ball but didn't control the outcome.
