Courtney Lawes eyes England return after Sale switch
The 37-year-old, back in the Prem with Sale Sharks, says impressing there is his route back into Steve Borthwick's England squad.
Courtney Lawes has returned to Sale Sharks, targeting an England recall after his surprise call-up to Steve Borthwick's pre-season squad.
If I play well for Sale I’ll give myself an opportunity to play for England.
Lawes has 105 caps and last played for England at the 2023 World Cup. Borthwick told Lawes, Marchant and Sotutu that selection hinges on beating the incumbents.
Lawes left Northampton after a title-winning campaign. He stood topless and in ski goggles at his final press conference. Asked whether a comeback risks undoing that finish, he said he feels no nerves about it and is not worried about legacy, preferring to find out whether he can still do it rather than always wonder.
