Aleksandar Dragović

The red card came in Austria's opening match at UEFA Euro 2016, against Hungary. Aleksandar Dragović had been a fixture in the national side since his debut against Serbia in June 2009, and he reached his 100th cap in March 2022, having scored twice along the way — against Brazil in 2014 and against the Faroe Islands in 2021. He also played at UEFA Euro 2020.

The Vienna-born defender came through at Austria Wien, moving up from the reserve side to the first team in 2009. Basel signed him in January 2011 for around €1 million and he left Switzerland with three Super League titles and a Swiss Cup. Dynamo Kyiv paid €10 million for him in July 2013; he won two Ukrainian league titles, two Ukrainian Cups and a Super Cup there.

Bayer Leverkusen spent €21 million on him in August 2016, and the move did not settle. A season on loan at Leicester City in 2017–18 brought 16 appearances, and Dragović said publicly that he was unhappy with how little he was playing. He returned to Leverkusen, then left on a free transfer in May 2021.

Serbia proved the most decorated stretch of his career. In three seasons at Red Star Belgrade he won the SuperLiga and the Serbian Cup each year — a double in 2021–22, 2022–23 and 2023–24. In July 2024 he went back to where he started, joining Austria Wien on a free transfer.
