About the player
Akseli Puukko came through Reipas Lahti's youth ranks before joining FC Lahti, where he made his Veikkausliiga debut on 16 October 2022, becoming one of the youngest players to debut in Finland's top flight. FC Lahti rewarded him with a contract extension in November 2023, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2026 season, but that deal was overtaken by events: in August 2024, Bologna signed him for an undisclosed fee, taking him to Italy to play for their Primavera side in the UEFA Youth League.
His time in Bologna's academy came to an end in January 2026, and later that month he returned to Finland, joining KuPS as a free agent.
Internationally, Puukko has been a regular at every Finnish youth level, moving from the U16s through to the U19s, for whom he scored a goal, before stepping up to the U21 side. He was part of the Finland squad that won the Baltic Cup with the U18s in 2023. He has not yet featured for the senior national team.
