About the player
Albian Ajeti came up through FC Basel's academy, winning back-to-back Swiss U16 titles before making his first-team debut in 2014. A move to FC Augsburg in January 2016 brought little playing time, and a loan to FC St. Gallen turned into the making of him: ten goals in 29 appearances persuaded the club to sign him outright the following year.
His best spell came back at Basel. Returning in October 2017, Ajeti finished the 2017–18 season as the Swiss Super League's top scorer with 17 goals, and a year later struck the opening goal in the Swiss Cup final win over Thun.
Signed for £5 million in 2020, Ajeti scored on his league debut against Dundee United and went on to collect the Scottish Cup, the Premiership title and the League Cup during his time at the club. A loan to Sturm Graz in 2022–23 brought three goals in 15 appearances, but Celtic chose not to make the move permanent. Basel took him back on a free transfer in February 2024.
For Switzerland, Ajeti marked his senior debut in September 2018 with a goal against Iceland in a 6–0 win, part of a squad that went on to finish fourth at the Nations League Finals the following year.
