About the player
Arai came through Shimizu Commercial High School and then Juntendo University, and it was during his student years that he earned a place in the Japan squad for the 2015 Summer Universiade. He turned professional straight out of university, joining Yokohama F. Marinos in 2016.
A loan to Nagoya Grampus the following year turned into a permanent move, and Arai played for Nagoya before a fresh loan took him to JEF United Chiba in 2019. He scored twice and set up three more from centre-back in his first season there, signed permanently in 2020, and played for four years. The high point came in 2022, when JEF United Chiba won the J2 League title and went up to J1, with Arai a key part of the backline.
He moved on to V-Varen Nagasaki on a free transfer at the start of 2024, continuing his career in the J2 League.
