About the player
Ariel Lima grew up in the Defensor Sporting academy, where he progressed through the club's youth ranks and represented its under-20 side in the 2023 Copa Libertadores Sub-20, scoring a goal in that competition. He made his senior debut for Defensor Sporting in the Uruguayan Primera División in 2024.
A left-footed centre-back, Lima's frame at 198 cm made him a natural presence at the back for Defensor. Under contract with the club until January 2027, he was sent out on loan to Cerro for the 2026 season. He quickly became a starter for Cerro in the 2026 Apertura, a run in which he also got on the scoresheet.
Lima has also featured for Uruguay at youth level, earning a cap for the under-20 national team. He has yet to be called into the senior squad.
