Breston Malula

Bern gave Breston Malula his football education, but not his international allegiance. Born in the Swiss capital, the defender came through SC Bümpliz 78 and Team Bern-West before BSC Young Boys took him into their academy, where he stayed until 2020. He worked his way through the club's U19 and U21 sides and was part of the squad that won the Swiss Super League in 2019–20, though the step up to the first team never came. His senior career started instead at FC Chiasso, signed on a free transfer in August 2020.

The move that shaped his career came a year later, when Malula joined Yverdon Sport as a free agent. He established himself as a key figure in the defence there, and in 2022–23 helped the club win the Swiss Challenge League title and go up to the Swiss Super League. He left Yverdon in July 2024 for FC Stade Lausanne-Ouchy, again on a free transfer, before signing for Petrolul Ploiești as a free agent this July.

Malula holds Swiss citizenship by birth but has opted to represent DR Congo at international level, though he is yet to win a senior cap for either country. Petrolul Ploiești is his first move outside Switzerland.
