About the player
Cody Gakpo came through PSV Eindhoven's academy, having joined via FC Eindhoven's youth ranks, and made his debut for Jong PSV in the Eerste Divisie in November 2016 before breaking into the first team in February 2018 against Feyenoord. At PSV he won the Eredivisie title, the KNVB Cup and two Johan Cruyff Shields, and was named the Netherlands' Footballer of the Year for the 2021–22 season.
Liverpool agreed a deal to sign him from PSV at the end of December 2022, a club-record sale for the Eindhoven side, and the move was completed on 1 January 2023.
Since arriving, Gakpo has added an EFL Cup, an FA Community Shield and the Premier League title in 2024–25 to his collection. He scored the third goal in a 5–1 win over Tottenham Hotspur among his contributions. For the Netherlands he has become a regular scorer, and at Euro 2024 he finished as a joint winner of the Golden Boot after scoring three goals, sharing the award with five other players.
