About the player
Diogo Amado came through Sporting CP's academy without ever making the breakthrough to the first team. Spells at Real Massamá and Odivelas gave him only a handful of appearances each, and it was a move to União de Leiria in 2010 that put him on a more settled path.
A loan to Estoril Praia in 2011–12 proved decisive: he was part of the squad that won the Segunda Liga title and went up to the Primeira Liga.
A move to Qatar with Al-Gharafa followed in 2017, and he won the Emir of Qatar Cup in consecutive seasons before a spell in the United Arab Emirates with Ajman. In January 2022 he returned to Portugal and rejoined União de Leiria as a free agent, the club where he now captains the side. His second spell there has included a run to the Liga 3 final in 2022–23 and promotion to Liga Portugal 2, the level at which he continues to play.
