About the player
Sterling came through Chelsea's academy from under-8 level, working his way to a UEFA Youth League double and back-to-back FA Youth Cups before making his senior debut in September 2017, all seven of his Chelsea appearances coming in the EFL Cup. The following seasons were spent away from the club on loan, first at Coventry City, then Wigan Athletic, Blackpool and Stoke City.
He left Chelsea for Rangers on a free transfer in July 2023, signing a four-year contract, and has since become a regular in Glasgow, passing sixty appearances and contributing three goals from the back. His standout moment in Scotland came in the Viaplay Cup final against Aberdeen, where he was voted Man of the Match as Rangers lifted the trophy.
Born in Islington to Jamaican parents, Sterling represented England from under-16 through under-20 level, winning the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2017 and earning a place in the Team of the Tournament at both that competition and the Under-17 Championship a year earlier.
